Gatekeeper’s Take on Three Factor Authentication

Three Factor Authentication

Our approach to vehicle security includes three factor authentication meant to ensure safety on all levels.

At Gatekeeper, our goal is to offer the best intelligent optical inspection systems on the market. We believe we’ve created a three factor authentication system that does just that. More and more security professionals are beginning to realize the severity of vehicle related threats, and as such, it’s important that we create systems that are complete and comprehensive. Our three factor authentication system is meant to identify whether a vehicle is safe, the identity of the vehicle itself, and the identity of any occupants or drivers. Let’s take a look at what three factor authentication means.

1. Creating a Vehicle Fingerprint

The first component in this is creating a “digital fingerprint” of the particular vehicle. To do this, we use our intelligent under vehicle inspection system which recognizes that particular vehicle and all subsequent passes over the scanner. It can compare future scans to check for any anomalies or foreign objects so you’re always certain it’s the same physical vehicle and that there aren’t any changes that could present threats.

2. Tracking License Plates

License plates are the most common and easily trackable form of vehicle identification. Our license plate reader system can determine the license plate’s alphanumeric characters, color, and state of origin, which can then be tied into the vehicle’s fingerprint. If that car were to ever change license plates, the system would notify you so that proper actions can be taken.

3. Identifying Drivers

The third element in three factor authentication is driver identification. Utilizing our DriverCam, the driver and occupants of a vehicle can be identified and matched against a database. It even works through dark tinted glass, ballistic glass, and even if there’s glare from the sun or overhead lighting.

These three elements of a three factor authentication system are combined to create a true fingerprint of each vehicle. Occupants, drivers, and license plates are all tied to a vehicle and the system will alarm if anyone enters and one of those three elements is out of the norm.
